COURSE INFO OUTLINE:

Composition Professor Richard Danielpour (UCLA, Curtis Institute) will teach a 2-week intensive program for graduate students. The course is open to a maximum of ten composers who are currently enrolled in graduate schools. Talented  undergraduate students may also apply, provided they have a recommendation from a teacher.

APPLICATIONS and ELIGIBILITY:
Applications must be submitted online using the form provided below.
Applicants are required to submit:
– personal information
– a link to an audio or video recording of an original composition, totaling between 5 and 8 minutes, and
– the corresponding score of the composition in PDF format.

Applicants must include contact information (email and phone number) for a reference. This reference should be either the applicant’s principal teacher or a mentor who has worked with the applicant within the past three years, whom we may contact to inquire about the applicant’s performance abilities.

The deadline for applications (digital timestamp) is April 1, 2024, at midnight PST.

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION:
Applicants will be notified of their admission to the course on a rolling basis, following the evaluation of their application.
Students admitted to the C-GAP Composition Program will have 7 days from the communication of their admission to pay a deposit of USD 500.00 to enroll or decline the offer. The deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE and will be applied toward tuition. The remaining tuition balance is due on May 1, 2024.

Failure to pay the tuition balance may result in forfeiture of the student’s place in the C-GAP COMPOSITION PROGRAM Summer 2024 at Chigiana.

FEES AND IMPORTANT DATES

IMPORTANT DATES:

COURSE MATERIAL:
The candidate’s work selected for this course must be no less than 5 minutes and no more than 8 minutes in length and should be composed for an orchestra with the following instrumentation: 2 Flutes – 2 Oboes (second doubling English Horn) – 2 B♭ Clarinets – 2 Bassoons – 2 French Horns in F – 2 Trumpets in C – 2 Trombones (one tenor, one bass) – 1 Timpani player – 2 Percussionists (with assorted percussion instruments) – 1 Piano – 1 Harp – 7 Violins I – 6 Violins II – 4 Violas – 4 Cellos – 2 Double Basses.

A complete draft of the work for the orchestra that will be rehearsed and performed during the summer session must be submitted to admissions@chigiana.org by April 1st, 2024.

PROGRAM OFFICIAL DATES:
– Program starts on Tuesday, June 12, 2024
– Program ends on Wednesday, June 26, 2024
– Students check in in Siena: Monday, June 11, 2024

FEES:
The course fees are:
– USD 5,000.00 (basic fee, no housing)
– USD 6,000.00 (with program-provided housing in a double room in a private apartment)
– USD 6,500.00 (with program-provided housing in a single room in a private apartment).

FEES INCLUDE:
Instruction, program orientations (online pre-departure orientation & on-site orientation), cultural activities, welcome dinner, farewell reception, student services assistance, card to access the University of Siena canteen for discounted meals, round-trip transportation to Parma, Italy, by private bus, accommodation in Parma in a 3-star hotel for 3 nights with breakfast included, professional audio and video recording of the orchestra’s final concert at the Primavera Chigiana Festival in Siena.

FEES DO NOT INCLUDE:
Transportation to and from the US, regular meals, and personal expenses.

The balance should be paid no later than May 1, 2024, to:
